Q: What are the benefits of becoming a VBA Vision provider?
A: VBA Vision has more than 50 years of experience in vision health care, eyewear, and customer support. Many employees have been with the company for years, showing great atmosphere and stability, yet the executive-level leaders have joined within the past few years, bringing with them aggressive plans for growth.

VBA Vision has more than 1 million members in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Its agreements with 250 full-service optical labs nationwide enable the company and all of our providers to control the cost and quality of all ophthalmic materials dispensed through the network. We also allow providers to select the labs they prefer, versus other companies that require providers to use company-owned labs.

Q: How many providers are in the VBA Vision network?
A: VBA Vision has contracts with more than 16,000 optometrists, ophthalmologists, and retail optical locations in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Q: How many members are in my area?
A: Our member network is rapidly growing. We can provide an analysis of your area within a week as requested.

Q: What employers in my area use VBA Vision?
A: Our member network is continually growing. We can provide the names of current employers within your area as a reference.

Q: Where are lenses fabricated?
A: You decide! Lenses can be fabricated in any of our 250 VBA Vision approved labs.

Q: How many labs are there and where are they located?
A: There are 250 VBA Vision approved labs across the nation.

Q: Is dilation required as part of an eye examination?
A: Yes. Dilation must be performed as part of an eye exam if it is done on uninsured patients. You may not charge extra for pupil dilation.  

Q: Is there an enrollment fee?
A: VBA Vision participating providers do not pay an enrollment fee.

Q: How do I request authorizations, submit claims, and view claims history?
A: All claims, claims histories, and authorizations are done through our electronic claim authorizations. You can review patient eligibility, coverage limits, and claim payments (previous and pending). Your patients’ eligibility and plan coverage are available 24/7.

Q: How do I apply to become a provider? How long does the process take?
A: To become a provider, you must complete the Provider Application and Participating Provider Agreement. Once you submit your completed application, it takes 90 days or less to be a member of our network. Information needed includes:

  • Copy of State Licensure
  • Copy of Current Certificate of Malpractice Insurance
  • Copy of W-9 – Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification
  • Copy of Board Certificates (if applicable)

All VBA Vision providers are encouraged to perform at the highest level of their profession. To qualify for VBA Vision Panel Membership, they must meet or exceed all of the following minimum standards:

  • Must be duly licensed and practicing in the state in which they are applying for VBA Vision Membership.
  • Must comply with all continuing education requirements as mandated by that state.
  • Must provide proof of professional liability insurance.
  • Must not have been sanctioned by any government program or agency (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid, etc.)
  • Must agree to all provisions of VBA Vision’s Agreement for Panel Membership with includes Examination Standards, Fee Schedules and Plan Rules.
  • Must agree to have all ophthalmic lenses fabricated at one of VBA Vision’s 250+ approved Optical Labs nationwide.

Q: How is customer service handled?
A: An internal call center operates from 8:30am – 6:00pm EST, so VBA Vision has the resources available to fulfill the daily vision needs of its members.

Q: What languages do your customer care representatives speak?
A: We have customer care representatives who speak English and Spanish.
