Tips for Selecting Frames
When it comes to glasses, we know that frames often double as a statement of fashion. While selecting your frame, it’s important to not only look for a frame that represents your personality, but one that looks good and fits your lifestyle! Here are a few factors to keep in mind while browsing through options:
Face Shape
Although there’s no hard-and-fast rule about what frame shape matches different face shapes, here are some pointers to keep in mind.
- Oval Face
- Look for frames that are as wide as the broadest part of the face
- Avoid oversized frames, as they can throw-off the natural balance and symmetry of your face
- Round Face
- Look for frames that are square or rectangular. These shapes can help make your face longer and slimmer.
- Avoid rimless, round and small frames, as these could make your face look rounder.
- Square Face
- Look for frames that are round or oval to soften the angles of your face.
- Avoid angular or boxy frames that could accentuate the angles of your face.
- Diamond Face
- Look for frames that extend wider than your cheekbones and complement your features, like a fun cat-eye.
- Avoid narrow frames that could make your eyes look smaller.
- Heart-Shaped Face
- Look for rimless frames, or frames with a wide bottom.
- Avoid frames that have decorative temples.
Lifestyle
Before picking frames, it can be useful to consider your lifestyle. Are you an active, on-the-go type person? Do you have to wear your glasses all day? Do you have sensitive skin? These are just a few questions to ask yourself before you make your decision. Here are a few tips for frames based on lifestyle:
- If you plan to wear your glasses while participating in activities (i.e. running), consider a frame with subtle nose pads. The nose pads may help to hold your glasses in place with a comfortable grip rather than them sliding down your nose as you move.
- Plastic frames can be better for long-term wearers, as they tend to be more-lightweight.
- Certain types of metal frames can be tricky for those with sensitive skin. If you’re interested in a metal frame, consider titanium, as it is hypoallergenic.
Personality
Last but not least, you want to consider your personality when picking your frame. Whether you’re looking to make a bold statement or want something simple, there are plenty of ways the frame you select can let your personality shine.
- Pick a fun color, or even a patterned frame to make your glasses an added accessory.
- Looking for something quirky? Try a round, cat-eye or even aviator style frame.
- If you want to be trendy, consider a thick, black frame. They are always in style!
Don’t be hesitant to consult with your eye care provider if you have questions about frames that are right for you.
